This document is a compilation of advice for series making. It is largely unorganized, but you should be able to scan through it to find the advice you need. class = Late Model difficulty = 5.00000 num events = 12 LEAVE THIS ALONE large series = 1 [display names] english = LM Series french = german = NAME OF SERIES PUT NAME IN FRONT OF LM italian = spanish = [awards] heat points maximum = 10 heat points difference = 2 heat points minimum = 2 mains points maximum = 30 LEAVE ALONE mains points difference = 2 mains points minimum = 5 position 0 money = 100000 [event 0] # event 1 GAME STATRS WITH O =1 track = name of track but has to be same as on track folder name EXE Pittsburgh WOULD BE Dtr2_Pittsburgh JUST COPY PAST NAME FROM FOLDER cost = WHAT EVER U WANT TO PAY TO ENTER practise laps = I USE 3-6 HOT LAPS qualifying prize money = WHAT EVER U WANT TO PAY #1 QUALFIER heat laps = HEAT LAPS I USE 8 heat money maximum = WHAT EVER U WANT TO PAY WINNER OF HEAT A main laps = # OF LAPS RUN A main money maximum = WINNER PURSE B main laps = # OF B LAPS B main money maximum = MONEY IF U WANT TO PAY OR PUT O C main laps = # OF LAPS TO RUN TO TRY GET IN B MAIN C main money maximum = MONEY IF ANY IF NO O D main laps = 6 D main money maximum = O E main laps = 6 E main money maximum = O F main laps = 6 F main money maximum = O LEAVE THIS AS IS IF U WANT OR DO SAME AS ABOVE TO THEM G main laps = 6 G main money maximum = O H main laps = 6 H main money maximum = O appearance money = WHAT EVER U WANT TO GET FROM SHOWING UP AT THIS EVENT sponsor appeal = 1.00000 LEAVE ALONE [drivers] best ability = 1.000000 worst ability = 0.5000 LEAVE ALONE FOR NOW spread modifier = 3.000000 ; Force a driver's car number to a specific value using "number = 33" ; (or whatever) in their section below. As I am getting bored with running the default series' in career mode, I have decided to create more series' to accomodate my add-on chassis(which coincidentally are all made in their own classes) and add-on tracks as well. So, Here is the low down on how, you too, can create your very own series: A: Open the enclosed "series template(change to 'series').str" file in any text editor, preferably Notepad. B: On the first line, you will see "class = ???". The question marks indicate what class the series is going to be for. If you are creating a series for add-on chassis like I am, then, do the following: 1. Go into DTR2 folder. 2. Open the Data folder. 3. Open the Cars folder. 4. Decide which add-on chassis you want to run in this series. 5. Open the folder for that particular chassis. 6. Open the car.str file for that chassis. 7. The 5th line down should read, for example, "class = Late Model Truck" 8. This will be the class that you put on the first line of the series template. C: The next area of interest on the template is "num events". This is the number of events (or tracks) in the series that you wish to run. D: The line below that says "large series = (0for<=6...1for>6). Simply put...if you are running 6 or less events in your series, put 0, more than 6, put 1, then delete the note in (parenthises) E: The next secion of the template is "[display names]". Name your series here. Whatever you put here will be what is displayed in the game. F: Next, is "[awards]". This is the Points system for the series. 1. heat points maximum = ??? -- what every you want 1st place in each heat to get for points. 2. leave heat points difference = 2 as is. 3. heat points minimum = (24 points less than max) -- whatever value you choose to use for heat points maximum = ???, subtract 24 from that number and enter the difference on this line. 4. follow the same process for the mains points maximum = ???, and mains points minimum = (24 points less than Max) 5. Dont forget to remove any question marks you see in the template after you replace them with your own data and any notes that i have in (parenthises). G: Next is [event #]. Notice it starts with [event 0]...this is the first event. 1. track = ??? --your first track in the series...must be named exactly like it is either in the game or in your tracks folder. 2. cost = ? -- how much do you want it to cost to enter the event? 3. qualifying prize money = ??? -- self explainatory. 4. heat laps = ??? How many laps to you want in each heat? 5. heat money maximum = ??? how much money do you want the winner of the heat to recieve? 6. A-H main laps = ??? how many laps in the mains? 7. A main money maximum = ??? how much money do you want the winner of the A Main to recieve? 8. Appearance money = ??? How much show money do you want to recieve after the event? 9. Do the same thing for each event you wish to have in the series. H: If you are having more than 6 events... copy and paste how ever many times you need to, the section labeled "[event ???]" ---make sure to copy the whole section of that event, then add your events just like the above example and changing the ??? in [event ???] to the next number in succession....[event 6], [event 7], [event 8], etc... I: [drivers]... The only thing that will get changed here is the "car = ???\\0" line. Since i did this for add on chassis, you will have to replace the ??? with the exact car name as it appears in that chassis car.str file. Example...if this series is only for the Late Model Trucks, then the "car = ???\\0" line for each and every driver will say..."car = Late Model Truck\\0". Since there are so many drivers, the easiest way to change it for all of them is to change the first driver, then copy and paste over that particular line for each driver, or type it for each whatever you choose. J. now...you want to save your series. Do this by clicking file at the top of the text window for the series, select "save as...", then just type series in the file name box. --save it to the desktop for now. K. Almost finished!! The next thing you want to do is create a folder to house your series on the desktop. DTR2 uses the class to identify the series....for example...01 - modified1 is what DTR2 uses to identify the first series for the 1st default modified class. so...what you can call your series is...01 - Late Model Truck ...for example. L: After you create your series folder...drag your new series.str file into it. M: Now...Open your DTR2 Data folder again. N: create a new folder in there called Series. O: Drag your newly created "01 - Late Model Trucks" folder into this series folder. P: Now if all has gone well...when you start your game and go into career mode, you will see the new series there. Also, if all you used were default game tracks or you are in a server where everyone has every add-on track that you used in your series...your series will also show in multiplayer series. Have fun and enjoy!! Any Questions or comments? Email me at Tom1374@hotmail.com SOME HELP WITH SERIES.STR FILES L. J. Abels a.k.a. E3Racer LJAbels@att.net IT'S BEST TO VIEW THIS FILE IN FULL SCREEN MODE!!! This is just some info that gets asked here on the DTR forum quite a bit, so I thought I'd throw together this quick guide to answer these questions: You need to use the FOLDER NAMES of the skins that you want to use in a Series... NOT the name in the SKIN.STR file. DEFAULT DTR2 TRACK NAMES FOR SERIES.STR FILE 41street Bloomington DTR2Eagle Harrison_County DTR2Husets Knoxville Parkside Jefferson Rodeo_raceway spindale (MOD) or Thunderbird (LM) DTR2Terrehaute williamsgrove EXAMPLE of a SERIES.STR: class = DIRT Modified <---IMPORTANT--SEE NOTE**** difficulty = 15.000000 num events = 25 large series = 1 [display names] english = NES 2004 Regular Season <---This is the series name you "see". ...(SKIPPING DOWN TO DRIVER SECTION)... [driver 8] name = Tim Tanner Jr <----You can put in ANY name you want ** car = NES-2004-TimTanner18\\0 <--FOLDER NAME of the skin + "\\0" *** number = 18 <------Any one or two digit NUMBER between 1-99 ** ** NOTE: These override what's in the SKIN.STR file. *** NOTE: "\\0" = "slash, slash, zero" ...not the letter "O". **** NOTE: ALL of the skins that you use in a Series must reference to a chassis (CAR FOLDER and CAR.STR file) that are ALL in the same CLASS of chassis. The example above is "DIRT Modified". EXAMPLE of the first few lines of the "CAR.STR" file: de2 filename = car.de2 high res texture name = 512texture low res texture name = 256texture alpha texture name = alpha class = DIRT Modified chassis damage resistance = 1.000000 x axis rotation = -0.02 visual height adjust = 0.4 [display names] english = Big Block Type 2 A FEW MORE NOTES: 1. Whenever you create a new series OR modified (even slightly!) an existing series, you have to start a "New Career" in order to even see the series in the game. 2. If you still get "NON-EXISTING HOUSE CAR" ("Non-Existing Shop Car"???), and you quadruple checked ALL of the above, you've probably made a typo. I avoid this by COPYING the SKIN FOLDER NAME and pasting it in the SERIES.STR file. DTR2 is EXTREMELY "picky" about typos and such, so you HAVE TO make sure EVERYTHING IS EXACT! The info below isn't easily findable or readably available, as far as I can see. Depending on what size "Field" you choose to race against in a series, certain "[driver #]" are omitted. The following can be cut & pasted into your series.str file for quick reference -BUT EACH LINE MUST START WITH THOSE SEMI-COLONS! ;Travis Senter: ;Large field leaves out drivers; 4, 9, 13, 18, 22, 27, 31, 36, 41, 45, 50, 54. ;The medium field uses all 59 drivers. ;The small field leaves out drivers; 11, 23, 35, 47. ;So if you want the maximum amount of opponents just leave the default ;skins in for those drivers ex: 4, 9, 18, 22, etc. exact numbers courtesy: ;Duane Turner! (Actually, there are 60 medium field size opponents: 0 thru 59). I left the credits in there so we don't forget who supplied this important info. You can also put these: ;omitted from LARGE field ;omitted from SMALL field ...directly above the correct cooresponding "[driver #]". AGAIN, make sure these lines start with a semi-colon! In any case -DO NOT REMOVE ANY [driver #]'s from the series.str file!
